Sustainability and Climate Action Planning at our school

Our Commitment to Sustainability and Climate Action
At Sibford Gower Endowed Primary School, we believe caring for our planet is not just a responsibility but a vital part of preparing our young people for the future. From how we use energy to what we teach in our classrooms, sustainability is deeply embedded in everything we do.

Why Sustainability Matters to Us
The challenges of climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental damage affect us all. As a school, we’re committed to empowering our pupils with the knowledge, skills, and values to protect the world they are growing up in. We want them to be informed, confident and proactive in making a difference – both locally and globally.

Our Whole-School Approach
Sustainability runs through every part of school life:
  • Curriculum: We embed environmental understanding across subjects and year groups.
  • Wider Curriculum: Assemblies, theme days and enrichment activities focus on environmental awareness and action.
  • Daily Operations: We’re making thoughtful choices about how we use energy, reduce waste and manage resources.
  • Pupil Leadership: Our School Council has already led an inspiring water-saving assembly and competition, and all classes created and sold climate-friendly products at our Sustainability Fair – raising funds to develop our new science and well-being area.
  • Nature & Biodiversity: We are already proud Friends of the Honey Bee, and over the coming academic year, we’ll begin exciting new work with the RSPB and the National Education Nature Park, where pupils will help map and improve our school grounds with nature in mind.
  • Eco-Council Launch: From October 2025, our new pupil Eco-Council will lead on dedicated sustainability projects across the school.

Our Climate Action Plans

Multi-Academy Trust Strategic Climate Action Plan
This plan sets the strategic direction for sustainability across all schools in our trust – including energy reduction, carbon tracking, and curriculum development. It ensures we work together towards a shared goal and benefit from collective learning.

Sibford Gower’s School Climate Action Plan
Our school-specific plan turns strategy into action:
  • We are measuring our energy use and waste to set a clear baseline.
  • We have set curriculum and enrichment milestones across the year.
  • We have begun, and are planning further physical improvements to our site with nature and sustainability in mind.
  • We are continuing to grow pupil voice and leadership in every area of our environmental work.
