When we went out for a walk around the village to 'notice' the seasonal changes now Autumn is here...

...one of us found a leaf, exactly the same colour as our waterproofs!
It was very, very wet and we had a very, very lovely time!

Muck, Mess & Mixtures Launch Day

To start our topic on the theme of 'Mess, Muck & Mixtures', the children in Acorn & Beech classes spent a morning as scientists, exploring all sorts of messes and mixtures and developing their scientific vocabulary at the same time.
What does shaving foam feel like? What happens when we mix cornflour with water – how does it feel and what does it do?  What happens to jelly cubes if we add warm water? What if we then cool the liquid? What do different breakfast cereals feel like?  What happens if we put water on them? What happens if we mix different colours? How do I make bubbles and how do they behave? The amount of new scientific vocabulary the children used during these activities that they will further explore as they move through the topic was impressive, and they had great fun!

Pirate Day

Pirate Day was brilliant!  All the children and staff in New School arrived in costume for a day of activities related to this theme, with a design & technology focus.  The children made origami boats, painted class pirate flags, labelled parts of ships, made treasure maps and split-pin pirates, and worked collaboratively to make group 'junk-modelling' boats.  Each of the children was given their own pirate name and they practised speaking like pirates.  "Avast Ye!"

Boat Trip in Stratford upon Avon

As an inspiring start to their topic on the theme of Land Ahoy, the children from Acorn and Beech Classes made a visit to Stratford upon Avon, where they took a boat trip up and down the river.  They also had the opportunity to cross the river on the chain ferry.
One of the children said,  "I've never been on a boat before and now I've been on two!"

Author Visit at Sibford School

Our friends at the nearby Sibford School invited our pupils from EYFS, Year 1 and Year 2 to attend an author visit.  The guest speakers were authors Adam and Charlotte Guillain who spoke to the children about their books, writing and being authors.  We had a fantastic time and hopefully, as well as inspiring to read books, this will add to the children’s awareness of the range of possible ways to make a living open to them when they have grown up.
