As a school, we believe that being engaged in physical and collaborative activity through Sport can make a significant difference to the lives of our pupils. As part of our commitment to providing high quality PE provision and access to a wide range of sporting opportunities to pupils from across the ability range, we work closely with the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership (NOSSP)
Established in 2004, NOSSP is a non-profit making organisation that works in partnership with 51 schools from across North Oxfordshire.
Their overriding aim is to engage more 5 to 19 year olds in high quality Physical Education, School and Community Sport, thereby promoting excellence and lifelong participation in health promoting activity.
Through our membership of NOSSP, we gain access to a range of Sainsbury's School Games competitions and sports festivals where are pupils have the opportunity to spend time with children from other schools in the Warriner Partnership, our teachers receive support with the development and delivery of high quality PE and have access to specialised training, and we welcome specialist Sports Coaches into school to support both curricular and extra-curricular initiatives.

Sports 4 Schools: Our visit from a GB Invictus Games competitor
We were delighted to welcome a very special guest to our school at the beginning of the school year. GB Invictus Games Ambassador, Luke Delahunty, came to spend an afternoon at our school running fitness workouts with all of the children, from the youngest to the oldest.
Luke was serving in the RAF as a senior Aircraftsman when he was involved in a motorcycle accident which left him paralyzed from the chest down at the age of 24. Luke was always active before the accident and didn't let that stop him in any way.
In 2010, Luke started handcyling and since then has also taken up and competed in rowing events. He has competed in the Invictus Games in the handcycling, rowing, wheelchair rugby and archery events. Since his accident, he has also learned to fly a light aircraft and to scuba dive - swimming with sharks off the coast of South Africa.
The whole school joined in the workouts and a frenetic afternoon of exercise was rounded off with an inspirational assembly during which Luke shared his story. Luke is such an excellent role model for all of us and his talk and question and answer session brilliantly reinforced all the work that we do in school around growth mindset, resilience, courage and generosity. He showed the children that anything is possible if you work hard enough and have the courage to try. Thank you, Mr Delahunty and Sports for Schools.

Cross Country running at Sibford School
Our Year One and Two children took part in a Warriner Partnership Cross Country running event which was held at the nearby Sibford School. Despite the damp weather, they had a great time and all completed the course. This is a great way to introduce our younger children to competitive events which are still inclusive and everybody can gain a sense of achievement from having taken part.
The whole of Key Stage Two, pupils from Year 3 to Year 6, walked up to Sibford to take part in a second Cross Country Competition the following week. Again, all of the children showed great determination and sportsmanship and our Year 3 & 4 girls team took first place in their event, qualifying for the County Finals later in the academic year. We are very proud of all of them.
The sporting excellence continues.....
We had a wonderful year of sport in 2017 -18, achieving a Gold School Games Award in recognition of all that we do in school to support and promote inclusion and excellence.
Within school, we have appointed a P.E mentor who is working alongside teachers to further improve the quality of our provision, both through teacher development and curriculum development. We have also invited Youth Activators in to run a lunchtime inclusion club, introduce new resources and develop lunchtime staff.
In 2017-18, children at our school had another outstanding year of sporting achievement in inter school sporting events.
Less than one term into the new school year, pupils took winning positions in two North Oxfordshire Finals organised by the North Oxfordshire Schools Sports Partnership (NOSSP).
All of our pupils have had the opportunity to take part in inter-school competitive or inclusion events, joining with pupils from across the Warriner Partnership for events such the multi-skills festival and the Year 1 & 2 Dance Festival, Cross Country, hockey and Tag Rugby.
On 16th November 2017, the school’s Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby team took first place in a tournament involving more than 35 schools from across the North of the county. Less than a week later, pupils from the school excelled again at the North Oxfordshire Cross-Country Final, with 3 pupils taking prime positions. Ollie Lloyd-Thomas came first in the Year 3 & 4 competition and Year 6 pupils, Oscar Ward and Tom Rowley came first and second respectively in the Year 5 & 6 race, in what was almost a ‘photo finish’. Aimee White finished an impressive 9th in the Year 1 & 2 race.

Visit from Team GB Athlete
In what seems to be becoming an annual event, this November, we invited a top international gymnast into school to deliver an inspirational assembly and deliver a whole school sponsored work-out workshop in which all the children participated. This year we welcomed Team GB gymnast, Dominic Cunningham. He wowed us all with his incredible physical agility and strength and his gymnastic ability. Following the workshop, the children had an opportunity to ask Dominic questions and to see a real Olympic Torch.
Summer Sport
A huge amount has been going on on the Sporting Front, just in the last half term.
As always, our children have represented the school brilliantly and we are very proud of them all.
A huge thank you to those parents and governors who have been supporting
sporting achievement by running clubs and taking children to events.
We couldn’t do it without you!

Sporting Events in the Spring Term
Our Year 5&6 High 5 netball squad played brilliantly in the Warriner Partnership tournament held at Sibford School, coming joint 1st with Bishop Carpenter primary. Very well done to all of you!
Our Year 5 & 6 hockey team did a brilliant job of representing our school in the Warriner Partnership tournament. They won three matches, drew two, but unfortunately just lost their final match which meant they didn't get the top stop, despite their excellent play. Their behaviour was exemplary, both on and off the pitch, and they all looked very smart in their new team jackets, thanks to our wonderful PTA.
We have recently been awarded a Sainsbury's School Games Silver Award which replaces our previous Bronze Award.
Scroll down to see some of the reasons why this award is so well deserved.
Our Under 9s football squad competed brilliantly to make it through to the final of the NOSSP small schools football tournament. They did a great job of representing their school and we are extremely proud of Ollie who was awarded the RESPECT band for his sporting behaviour and attitude. Well done all of you!
Sporting Achievements in the first half-term of 2016-17
The school year has only just got started, but our pupils are already showing their sporting excellence.
The Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby Team came 1st in the Warriner Tag Rugby Festival. Our Year 3 & 4 football team then matched this by coming 1st in the Warriner Football Festival! This means that both teams will go on to compete in the North Oxfordshire Finals. Congratulations!
Our Y1 & 2 girls came 1st in the Warriner Partnership Cross Country Race which took place at The Warriner School. All the girls took part and did an amazing job. A special mention for Olivia, Bella, Ruby and Esme who all came in the top 11, and Flora who attained a very impressive 18th place even though only in Year 1. Well done! The boys also did brilliantly and achieved a very close 2nd place. A special mention for Lucas who came in 2nd out of all the boys. |
Sibford Gower Sports Leaders
Some of our pupils have trained as Sports Leaders and regularly donate their lunchtimes to encourage our younger pupils to get active and have fun in the playground, taking part in all sorts of physical activities and games.
If you are a Sibford Gower Sports Leader, you will need to,
- Lead playground activities for younger children on one lunchtime per week.
- Help to organise and maintain games equipment for break and lunchtimes.
- Be in Year 5 or 6.
Visit from paralympic hand cyclist David Abrutat
David Abrutat, paralympic athlete and holder of two cycling world records, came to spend the afternoon with us. His is an impressive success story of perseverence, courage and the power of determination, despite suffering life-changing injuries when he was paralysed from the waist down in a car crash at the age of just 26. We had a great time and all the children, from the youngest to the oldest, worked incredibly hard at the exercise challenge.
Mr Cameron had a go on the hand cycle and everyone finished the afternoon with a real sense that
anything is possible if you persevere.
Our thanks to Sports4Schools and David - a seriously impressive athlete and a very nice man.

Winners of the Warriner Partnership Kwik Cricket Tournament
Once again our pupils have excelled on the Sports Field, this time beating Bloxham Primary School to become the winners of the Warriner Partnership Kwik Cricket tournament. Well done to all of them for excellent team work and a very mature sporting attitude.
Football County Finals
Our fabulous under 9 football team achieved an amazing 2nd place in the County Final at Abingdon, competing against teams from across Oxfordshire. We hope they are as proud of themselves as we are of them.
We are extremely proud of our netball squad, who also qualified for the County Finals at Abingdon. As you can see, they really enjoyed themselves.
Running Update
As a result of their brilliant performances in the inter-school cross country competition earlier in the academic year, Tom Rowley and Max Lloyd Thomas qualified for the County Final held in Abingdon.
Unfortunately, Max was unwell and couldn't attend but Tom Rowley took part,
achieving an incredible 2nd place in the under 9's race.
Well done, Tom. Absolutely magnificent!

Our hockey triumph continues...
Our fantastic hockey team went on to win the North Oxfordshire Hockey Championship, qualifying for a place at the County Finals held in Abingdon. Although they did not win here, qualifying for the County Final is a formidable achievement, particularly for a school of our size. Our children have shown great character and impressive team spirit in getting so far and we are incredibly proud of them.
Huge thanks are owed to Sue Rowley and Emma Coventry for all their hard work and dedication in supporting our young sports people to be the best they can be.

Years 5 & 6 Boys and Girls beat 10 schools to win Warriner Hockey Tournament..
The event on Friday 26th February was held at Bloxham School, with 10 schools taking part, and 12 teams in total. Our mixed team of talented year 5 and 6 girls and boys won all but one match during the whole tournament and went on to win overall, by beating Sibford School in the final. All the children are so proud of this fantastic achievement. Well done!
Running Superstars

Forty-eight of our children from across the school took part in the inter-school Cross Country Event. Of these forty-eight, five children qualified to take part in the North Oxfordshire Finals.
Out of these children:
- Ollie Lloyd-Thomas came 1st in the Year 1 & 2 final,
- Tom Rowley came 1st in the Year 3 & 4 final,
- Max Lloyd-Thomas came 1st in the Year 5 & 6 final.
This is an incredible achievement for our pupils and our school.
Football Champions
Our totally brilliant Under 9s Football Team won the North Oxfordshire Sports Partnership Primary U9 Small Schools Football Final 2015. They all played fantastically against some strong opposition and we are incredibly proud of every one of them. ‘Person of the Match’ is Amadea Baxter from Maple Class.
Partnership Swimming Gala at Sibford School
Two squads of KS2 children - one team of girls and one of boys walked up to Sibford School to take part in the annual swimming gala, competing against teams from other schools in the Warriner Partnership and beyond, as part of our work with the North oxfordshire Sports Partnership. As always, our children were a credit to our school and all gave of their best.
The children did amazingly well, with Max Lloyd Thomas, Ben Lloyd Thomas and Gemma Craig coming first in their heats.

The children are working with a sports coach provided as part of our membership of NOSSP. The coaches work alongside teachers to further develop their undertanding of how to teach PE effectively and inclusively.
A visit from a paralympic athlete.
We were visited by top paralympic athlete, footballer Alistair Patrick-Heselton.
We had a fantastic, and very energetic afternoon, working with a truly inspirational young athlete who has overcome serious obstacles to rise again to the top of his game, alongside an equally athletic member of Sports for School, Ryan.
All the children from Acorn to Maple took part in the fitness sessions and then listened, totally absorbed, as Patrick shared his remarkable story.
Inter school Events -
We invited the girls netball team from Sibford School to come and play some games on our site. We finished the afternoon sharing hot dogs with our new friends.
and our boys went to the Football 'Knock out' Tournament at Sibford School.
