As a school, we believe that being engaged in physical and collaborative activity through Sport can make a significant difference to the lives of our pupils. As part of our commitment to providing high quality PE provision and access to a wide range of sporting opportunities to pupils from across the ability range, we work closely with the North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership (NOSSP)
Established in 2004, NOSSP is a non-profit making organisation that works in partnership with 51 schools from across North Oxfordshire.
Their overriding aim is to engage more 5 to 19 year olds in high quality Physical Education, School and Community Sport, thereby promoting excellence and lifelong participation in health promoting activity.
Through our membership of NOSSP, we gain access to a range of Sainsbury's School Games competitions and sports festivals where are pupils have the opportunity to spend time with children from other schools in the Warriner Partnership, our teachers receive support with the development and delivery of high quality PE and have access to specialised training, and we welcome specialist Sports Coaches into school to support both curricular and extra-curricular initiatives.

Sports 4 Schools: Our visit from a GB Invictus Games competitor
We were delighted to welcome a very special guest to our school at the beginning of the school year. GB Invictus Games Ambassador, Luke Delahunty, came to spend an afternoon at our school running fitness workouts with all of the children, from the youngest to the oldest.
Luke was serving in the RAF as a senior Aircraftsman when he was involved in a motorcycle accident which left him paralyzed from the chest down at the age of 24. Luke was always active before the accident and didn't let that stop him in any way.
In 2010, Luke started handcyling and since then has also taken up and competed in rowing events. He has competed in the Invictus Games in the handcycling, rowing, wheelchair rugby and archery events. Since his accident, he has also learned to fly a light aircraft and to scuba dive - swimming with sharks off the coast of South Africa.
The whole school joined in the workouts and a frenetic afternoon of exercise was rounded off with an inspirational assembly during which Luke shared his story. Luke is such an excellent role model for all of us and his talk and question and answer session brilliantly reinforced all the work that we do in school around growth mindset, resilience, courage and generosity. He showed the children that anything is possible if you work hard enough and have the courage to try. Thank you, Mr Delahunty and Sports for Schools.

Cross Country running at Sibford School
Our Year One and Two children took part in a Warriner Partnership Cross Country running event which was held at the nearby Sibford School. Despite the damp weather, they had a great time and all completed the course. This is a great way to introduce our younger children to competitive events which are still inclusive and everybody can gain a sense of achievement from having taken part.
The whole of Key Stage Two, pupils from Year 3 to Year 6, walked up to Sibford to take part in a second Cross Country Competition the following week. Again, all of the children showed great determination and sportsmanship and our Year 3 & 4 girls team took first place in their event, qualifying for the County Finals later in the academic year. We are very proud of all of them.
Visit from Team GB Athlete
In what seems to be becoming an annual event, this November, we invited a top international gymnast into school to deliver an inspirational assembly and deliver a whole school sponsored work-out workshop in which all the children participated. This year we welcomed Team GB gymnast, Dominic Cunningham. He wowed us all with his incredible physical agility and strength and his gymnastic ability. Following the workshop, the children had an opportunity to ask Dominic questions and to see a real Olympic Torch.
Summer Sport
A huge amount has been going on on the Sporting Front, just in the last half term.
As always, our children have represented the school brilliantly and we are very proud of them all.
A huge thank you to those parents and governors who have been supporting
sporting achievement by running clubs and taking children to events.
We couldn’t do it without you!

Sibford Gower Sports Leaders
Some of our pupils have trained as Sports Leaders and regularly donate their lunchtimes to encourage our younger pupils to get active and have fun in the playground, taking part in all sorts of physical activities and games.
If you are a Sibford Gower Sports Leader, you will need to,
- Lead playground activities for younger children on one lunchtime per week.
- Help to organise and maintain games equipment for break and lunchtimes.
- Be in Year 5 or 6.
Visit from paralympic hand cyclist David Abrutat
David Abrutat, paralympic athlete and holder of two cycling world records, came to spend the afternoon with us. His is an impressive success story of perseverence, courage and the power of determination, despite suffering life-changing injuries when he was paralysed from the waist down in a car crash at the age of just 26. We had a great time and all the children, from the youngest to the oldest, worked incredibly hard at the exercise challenge.
Mr Cameron had a go on the hand cycle and everyone finished the afternoon with a real sense that
anything is possible if you persevere.
Our thanks to Sports4Schools and David - a seriously impressive athlete and a very nice man.
