The Reading Page
Reading is really important! We read to find out about things, we read to help us learn, we read because it is fun!
Reading can take us to places we couldn't imagine.
This page is to share all sorts of reading ideas, activities and information, including links to other people reading brilliant stories!

Reading Ambassadors
We have appointed our Reading Ambassadors and they have led their first organised reading event in school. They introduced themselves during a special assembly where they talked about why they felt reading was so important.
Fraser: " Reading improves your vocabulary by a massive amount. With a fiction book, especially if there is lots of description, you can really feel like you are in the character's world.
David: "Reading really gives you an increase in your knowledge and your vocabulary" Scarlett: "When you read, you can go all over the world whilst standing still. It's like free magic" Martha: " Bookworms have a bigger brain than other people. The more you read, the more you learn" Molly: "The reading curriculum is important in school. It's educational, good for your vocabulary and it is really magical when you get the perfect book for you" Charlie: "If you don't read, you've missed out on a whole other world" |
Then the children in Willow and Oak Classes found partners from a different class to share a favourite book with and explain why they would recommend it. The children all enjoyed this. They were very respectful and all enjoyed reading to their partner and listening to them read. Well done, Reading Ambassadors!
In each class, we have a 20 minute weekly 'Book Club'. This is a time within the school day which is all about developing a love of reading and excitement about books. While Book Club does not always look the same, it is always book focused, and the children LOVE it!
For one Book Club, Willow Class were invited to bring their favourite toy into school so they could read to it.
The children took this very seriously and became completely immersed in both reading and book talk with their cuddly friends. Wonderful!

Reading Week in School, Autumn 2023
It has been such a pleasure to welcome parents and grandparents into school for the first Reading Week of the year.
We were delighted to welcome so many of you in to read with the children at the start of each day.

All of the grown-ups in school LOVE to read books!
I wonder what their favourite books were as children?
Some stories read by the teachers
If you are reading something brilliant and think your friends might like to read it too, please send details of your recommendation to your class email page and we will post it here.

We absolutely love reading at Sibford Gower Primary School, whether we are listening to stories read by grown-ups, reading to ourselves or reading with our friends. We especially like it when we have the opportunity for a 'relaxed read' with the older and younger children spending time together.
